Course Overview

Description: This graduate-level virtual reality course focuses on theory and practice of virtual reality (VR). We will provide in-depth overview of VR, including geometry and physics of virtual worlds, visual rendering, visual perception, pose tracking, interaction hardware, audio and haptics, locomotion, selection, and so on.

Course Relevance: The course is relevant to students who want to understand and implement virtual reality systems.

Course Goals: There are three primary course goals. First, the course aims to familiarize students with the fundamental concepts of 3D virtual world. Second, the course helps students understand key components in VR systems. Third, through the assignments and final project, students have an opportunity to learn how to build practical VR systems.

Late Policy

For the assignments (not including reports for your final project), students will be allowed a total of five late days per semester; each additional late day will incur a 20% penalty.

Prerequisites

While there are no formal prerequisites, this course assumes familiarity with Linear Algebra. If you have not taken courses covering this material, consult with the instructor.
